New Regulations

The MTO has now announced that effective August 1st 2010 there are new penalties for traffic violators holding G1 and G2 licenses stated here

Starting August 1st 2010:

·         All drivers 21 years of age and younger must have a zero

·         blood alcohol level when they get behind the wheel or face:

    • An immediate 24-hour licence suspension
    • 30-day licence suspension
    • Up to $500 in fines

·         Drivers in the Graduated Licensing System will face tougher penalties if they violate the conditions of their licence or if they are convicted of any Highway Traffic  Act offences that carry four or more demerit points.

   Penalties include:

o    30-day licence suspension for the first instance

o    90-day licence suspension for a second instance

o    Further instances can lead to a cancellation of the licence and other penalties.

Under these regulations do for G1 license holders caught driving between midnight and 5 AM or driving on a highway above 90 km/h they will be suspended for 30 days for the first offense, and 90 days in the second offense.
We believe that the new regulations regarding the length of time required to hold a G1 and G2 license

New Licence Restrictions

Well we are now back online our blog was down 110 days.
Several people have asked when the new regulations for the licensing restrictions will come into place, I have no date but I do know that the last word from the MTO was it would be summer 2010.
Can tell you more than that right now

New regulations

Hi everyone, while we are almost at the end of March we still have not heard from the MTO about the new G1 regulations.
As far as I can tell it still looks like it will be the end of this month but nothing has been released by the MTO. As soon as I hear I'll put it here on my blog so stay in touch speak to you soon.

New Licence Restrictions

I heard a rumor today that the new G1, G2 license restrictions may kick in at the end of March. It is only a rumor but it came from a source which I trust. If you know someone who is turning 16 before the end of March I suggest you tell them to get their G1 now otherwise they may be holding a G1 for 18 months.

Florida promotion.

Florida promotion.
We have been asked why we are running a Florida promotion at this time, I think I'll try to give you a quick explanation.
Normally at this time of year we would be teaching students who obtained their G1 license in September October or November last year. Because of the strike it was not possible for them to get their G1, therefore a lot of students are getting their G1's at this time. History shown us that most will not come to class until 2 to 3 months before their eight month test date, this will cause a huge surge in students through June, July, and August. Rushing your driving lessons is not a good idea, therefore we thought that with this promotion we  could try to encourage everyone who has just obtained,or are about to obtain their G1 to come to class now, this will allow you to take your on road lessons at a pace that is best for learning to drive safely.
Please note that the five day four night stay is not a timeshare, however if you wish to upgrade to the VIP package then you will be required to attend a timeshare presentation.

Week 2 in review

The second week is now gone by since the examiners went back to work. We had 23 students go down this week, 22 passed and have their G2 license.
Only one examiner this year has failed any of our students this year, isn't it interesting that no other examiner finds any problems with our students except one, hmmmm!

The week in review

Well we've reached the end of the first week 2010 the strike is finally over and our students are finally taking their driving tests. As usual we've had an excellent week with 13 students going down for test and 12 passing, despite the bad weather.
We still have not heard from the MTO when they are changing the G1 G2 regulations, we know it will be this year and we encourage everyone to get their G1 before the regulations are changed. G1 license holders will be required to wait 18 months for their G2 test or 12 months after they've taken an MTO approved driver education program.
I am sure that teenagers getting their G1 this month will be anxious to get into a driver education program, please do not wait until you get close to your eight months as driving schools will fill up and you will find no spots available. This puts huge pressure on driving schools and can be avoided just by signing up now and space in your lessons in an orderly fashion.
Drive safe and stay out of trouble.

DriveTest strike

We are told the strike will be ending and services will be returned to normal on January 5th 2010. Students who have booked our car for road test before this date have all been rebooked,
We have called every student scheduled for January 5th and rebooked students who were scheduled prior to January 4th.
Our offices will be closed from the evening of December 23rd until Monday, December 28th. If you do not know when your test is scheduled please send an e-mail and we will send a reply with your date and time. If you want to look it up for yourself you can go to our website and click on the link that says book your road test. Make sure you have your license in your hand have low all the information, this is the MTO booking site and will tell you when your driving test is scheduled. Do not make any changes unless you talk to us first as there may be a $40 charge or you may not be going for your test until the backlog is cleared up.
Keep in mind that the examiners still have to ratify the agreement and there's a possibility the strike may not end if they vote against it. The final results will not be announced until after December 29th, so just keep watching the news and you will find out at the same time as we will.

DriveTest strike

I have spoken to several people this week who attended the DriveTest center in Barrie to take their written G1 test, each one told me that there are no lineups and they were in and out very very quickly.
I suggest this is a better alternative than going down to Bay Street in Toronto. You will however need to take with you your registration form and a letter from your driving school.
Don't forget to take as much identification as possible and also study well as there is nothing worse than failing that written test.
Good luck to you all.

DriveTest strike

Effective Monday, November 23 you will be able to take a G1 written test at the DriveTest  Barry office located at 520 Bryne Drive.
If you are going to this location for your G1 written test you will need to show proof that you have registered with a driving school, otherwise you will be turned away after waiting in line.
Please contact us and we will make sure you have a registration from Canadian School of Motoring Inc.
Please make sure you take all your identification with you including a health card. The cost of the test at this location is $125 which will include your first on road G2 test.
If you are unsure, just give us a call and we will do all we can to help you get your G1.
